Is this the same as Pulp Figures? What ever happened to the hero figure who like the Phantom has he been dropped from the range or did I just imagine they made one? |
ColCampbell | 03 Jun 2019 11:07 a.m. PST |
No, Pulp Figures pulpfigures.com is Bob Murch's company in British Columbia, Canada. Jim |
Dadster | 03 Jun 2019 1:22 p.m. PST |
Yes sir that is correct. This line thus far is NY gangsters only. |
miniMo | 03 Jun 2019 4:44 p.m. PST |
I've got an assortment from the Pulp lines, they are all superb figures! |
OneHuaiTicket | 03 Jun 2019 5:22 p.m. PST |
There is only the one line of gangsters? miniMo, I assume you are rightly confusing these middling sculpted minis w the excellent line from Bob Murch, Pulp Figures. I'd hope they change the name before it becomes a real issue in our small community. Just in poor taste to do such a thing, really. |
ColCampbell | 03 Jun 2019 7:38 p.m. PST |
Dadster, On further reflection I think you may be referring to the "Phantom Ace" from the Pulp Alley miniatures: link Jim |
miniMo | 03 Jun 2019 8:03 p.m. PST |
Ah yes, that is some serious riding on coat tails going on, I do indeed have Murch's lovely work. |
Dadster | 03 Jun 2019 8:21 p.m. PST |
Thank you for the kind words. No one is riding anyones coat tails. |
OneHuaiTicket | 04 Jun 2019 2:10 p.m. PST |
Dadster, if everyone else thinks something is true, maybe you're not seeing it? |
The Virtual Armchair General | 04 Jun 2019 4:14 p.m. PST |
"Not seeing it?" Could this be a case of an eyeless man mocking the blind? Regarding the domain name issue, I can see room for confusion, but I think the vast majority of us in the hobby can walk and chew gum at the same time and can tell the difference. Does anyone really think Dadster could take sales from the rightly esteemed Bob Murch by deliberately choosing a sound-alike name? Do the self-appointed critics actually believe customers could not tell the difference between the two Websites and products? Having learned Dadster's reasoning for choice of domain name, I find it perfectly valid, though I don't pretend another name was impossible, either. This hectoring is unfair and clearly not based on a sound premise. Even a cursory knowledge of other hobby companies or scan of the TMP Manufacturers' List provides the following examples of similar-to-identical company names. Scenic Effects, Scenic Express, The Armchair General, The ArmChair General (sic), Armchair Generals, Armour Soft, Armour Cast, Papermodels, Paper Make IT!, Pulp Alley, Pulp Fiction, Pulp Monsters, etc. If totally unique business/domain names are now the PC holy writ, why not go after these and so many others, too? Especially the likes of Eagle Figures and Eagle Miniatures? Clearly, someone riding the other's coat tails! This is Dadster's entry into what may be called the "Hobby Industry," which in maybe 90% of cases is one or two guys working out of their own homes/garages to create products we all can enjoy. I say cut the man some slack and let his product and service speak for him--it's all any of us can ask, isn't it? The (Virtual) Armchair General (Who Doesn't Begrudge Any Other "Armchair Generals") |

There are, to my knowledge, seven companies that have 'pulp' in their names: Pulp Action Library Pulp Alley Pulp Figures Pulp Miniatures Pulp Monsters Pulposaurus Entertainment Pulp Places I don't believe that any of these companies claim an exclusive right to the term 'pulp'. And speaking of generals, there are also: The Armchair General The ArmChair General Armchair Generals Flying-General Workshop Junior General The (Virtual) Armchair General |

Lots of pulps, but only two have synonyms for their second word. Indeed I can chew gum and walk and even listen to Music on my iPhone, nevertheless it's too bad that a new company has to take a name similar to an old company, not necessarily to ride on its coat tails, but just to confuse us. I say that because when I do a Google search for pulp figures I get Pulp Figures. When I do a search for pulp miniatures, I get Pulp Figures. |

Bobgnar! Are you saying your result is Dadster's fault? Why not blame Google for obviously getting something wrong? And do you really think people enter this crazy hobby industry with a business plan based on "confusing us?" You'll have to explain to me how that makes sales for one and takes them away from another. TVAG |
The Virtual Armchair General | 04 Jun 2019 9:32 p.m. PST |
Oh, and "Miniatures" is not synonymous with "Figures," if the Webster's Thesaurus may be taken as an authority. TVAG |

For most gamers, miniatures and figures are indeed synonymous. Witness my honest mistake above. Also, I can never remember which store is which between Pet Smart and PetCo, nor the former Office Depot and Office Max. Similar naming just guarantees confusion. But regardless, good luck with the line of Gangsters! |
