An impressive article published just in the past few weeks in the Journal of Intelligence, reviewing German recon photos from July and August of 1943 (with some Google Earth and Streetview images tossed in), and examining both German and Soviet accounts of the battle of Prokhorovka. Extensively footnoted with material sourced from the latest works by Frieser, Glantz, Zetterling, Zamulin and more.

It provides an impressive, and to my reading a very credible examination of the battle.

A bit hard to read through, though, as the recon photos are hard for me to interpret and understand. Still, the evaluations of unit results are hard to deny.

excellent read, thankyou for that.

Imagine the effect if Operation Roland had occurred. Interesting "what if".

Interesting read, but I am finding the photos and maps difficult to interpret. Would love to see an accurate diagram, so I could place the features

Looks deep – probably spend the ink printing this one out!

Thanks Mark 1.

I had to make a 3D map of Prokhorovka but couldn't get the position of anti-tank ditch. These photos show that it was more complicated than just a wavy line on a map.

I have Objective Ponyri which had some clear photos such that you can barely make out the tanks. But, this is a small section of the entire battle.

Losses of 235 Red Army to 5 German AFVs?! The Royal Armoured Corps performance in Op Goodwood looks rather good by comparison …
