If you play 28mm Dark Ages, would like to, or you use 28mm Dark Age figures for other uses, what multi-part plastic set would you MOST like to see released next. As an aside, I leave what constitutes "Dark Ages" up to each individual voter. My first pick would be a "Welsh" box that covered both upper and lower class infantry. My Runners Up would be Irish Infantry, Sassanid Super Heavy and Heavy cavalry, Bulgar Cavalry, Rus Infantry and later Scottish Thegns and lower class infantry. |

Carolingians, though a Welsh or Irish box would be equally welcome! |

A couple of years ago I suggested to GB that they do a Dark Age Celtic Warriors set usable as Picts, Irish, Scots and Welsh for the whole late classical/early medieval period (circa 300-1100AD). On each sprue the bodies would be bare-legged, there would be sufficient heads to cover all options, there'd be a two-handed axe or two for later types, and one each of the two main Pictish square shield styles would be included with the usual circular shields. |

Picts and Welsh for me! although a good, Early Saxon box, with no short sleeve coats, a mix of armoured and unarmoured figures with plenty of small saexs and a few larger ones would be great too… if not, some Byzantine infantry and cavalry would be nice (yes I have seen the plastic Byzantine infantry out already, but they look incredibly wooden…) Also, can they not be sculpted by Bob Naismith. while his stuff was good, there are now better sculptors out there… |

Byzantine cavalry- light, medium and cataphracts. Bindon- Fireforge already does Byzantine spearmen and auxiliaries. |

Pan, although GB do have Byzantine Foot, the Byzantine period was a LONG historical period with lots of army types ranging from Late Roman to Later Medieval in appearance. So you can never have too many Byzantines!!! |

Franks. The army of Charles the Great. Cavalry, preferably. Have yet to see a good Francisca, too, though that would mean late Saxon. Catalaunian fields call me. That said, I would prefer a good seat of peasants. |

More Vikings, I mean there are like 20 plastic sets of French napoleonic infantry. And only 2 or 3 for Vikings. So at least 15 more Viking sets. |

I almost forgot, I think Tang Chinese Foot & Cav boxes would be very useful/ popular. |

Just looking through my copy of "The Armies and Enemies of Ancient China" and thought a line for "The Five Dynasties" would be cool. |

The Dark Age civilians (townsfolk/villagers) would be good. Carolingians would be good. |

The Dark Age civilians (townsfolk/villagers) would be good. Unarmoured multi-part dark age combatants make good civilians. And even without multi-part, there are some easy conversions, like a spear without a head is the Mk1 Mod0 "stick" – good for ferrymen, shepherds, farmers, the elderly, government officials, etc. Bend the head down and it's a reasonable hoe. Putting a small piece of stick across the top of a long piece of stick makes a rake. A small bit of paper makes a long stick into a shovel. |

Well GB does listen…the greens are done for Dark Age Welsh,Scots/Irish and Picts. Probably the Scots/Irish coming first, though there is no set date as yet. |
Henry Martini | 11 Apr 2020 4:35 a.m. PST |
Following on from my earlier post on this thread, it's good that they're finally getting around to them. Presumably the Pict box will also allow for Welsh; or will that be a separate set? |
MartinDG | 13 Apr 2020 1:50 a.m. PST |
Yes the Welsh will have their own box. |

Carolingians also. With sufficient head options to allow either preference of helmet. Fireforge have recently brought out a set of villagers for their Forgotten World fantasy line. But generic medieval enough to be good for Dark Age through Renaissance. Sprue of six has two female bodies, a bow option and various tools (forks, spades, scythes, axe). Appears to be a handy utility kit all-in-all. |
Atheling | 08 May 2020 3:27 a.m. PST |
Horse archers. They would have to be fairly generic but with additional heads/equipment to do Avars, Alans, Khazars, Cumans and even Magyars are not beyond the realm of possibilities given some good research and planning. :) Just Add Water Blog: justaddwater-bedford.blogspot.com |
