Hi
This might be a bit of a cheek. Im just getting back into Dark Ages after a very long break away from the period and really starting off from scratch again. And I want to get a figure order off very soon, Can anyone of you kind people give me an idea of army lists for Middle Saxons and Vikings please. Im not talking bases or a pacific set of rules just % will do on each troop type. Thanks

To the Strongest is a good set of rules and their army lists are free. I'd start there:

Partially though you'll find every rule set defines the troop types differently so you really need rules to get a good list.

Like Extra Crispy says, there aren't exactly rules agnostic lists floating around and the percentages would change depending on so many circumstances. You may have to pick and choose from whatever list floats your boat.

Mortem Et Glorium rules have free army lists at their website.

I bulked out my Anjou/Maine and Bretons with a mix of black tree, gripping beast plastics, conquest Normans with gripping beast, crusader, black tree and musketeer commands with a few bags of metals, particularly cavalry. My Vikings were all metal gripping beast with a few foundry, now sold rebuilding with V and V and waiting for my Vikings to arrive from Victrix.

My armies are all based for Impetus

My are Anjou/Maine, Bretons

Salutations, Capt. Carter,

The army lists for _Triumph_ (658 of them) are online at meshwesh.wgcwar.com

Check 'Fall of Rome', 'Viking Seas' and 'Embattled Isle' under their _Thematic Categories_

Get 45% with mail, 45% without mail, and 10% archers to start. Adjust from there. However many games have a larger proportion without mail. My GUESS is that in reality the better armed guys were mixed in with the rest. A war leaders close guard was probably armored up.

JAFD26, the link does not work.

If you just want to paint figures and have fun, I'd go with Gripping Beast and use Two Hour Wargames rules to fight with. You can have a battle as small as 4 on 4 or as large as you want.

I've found the 2 Hail Caesar army lists very useful.

You can get a copy for $25 USDish on Amazon. If you're like me you'll want to collect multiple armies from this period eventually so this is a good place to start.
