I'm doing some research for the Byzantine Empires 6th Century Wars against the Sassanids and I've yet to figure out what 28mm miniature line would be most appropriate.

The Gripping Beast appear to be a later period as do Fireforges but I know the Fireforge ones are mentioned to be somewhat period flexible.

The numerous lines of "Late Romans" appear to only cover up to the 5th Century.

Any suggestions for 28mm that are close to this period? Thanks!

Essex might be closest to what you want if you are not going to use Footsore or the other Early Byzantine/Late Roman ranges. I would take a look at Old Glory too.

Perris, is there another "Early Byzantine" Line you had in mind?

I did forget about good old Old Glory. I'll have a look, thanks!

I took a quick look Old Glorys 25's. No description of a time period but they include Varangians which would be several centuries later than I'm looking for.

Footsore is interesting. They have a Belisarian figure that is exactly my period. The Romans are essentially 5th Century however, from what I can tell.

The Late Romans might have just do for what I'm looking for. I could do worse.

I went back and had a look at Gripping Beasts Late Roman line. It looks pretty good overall. I just have to stay away from some of the foot archers and Cataphracts with Kontos. They're spear armed in Hail Caesar.

GB's two plastic boxes of Late Romans would make the bulk of the army easy to build as well.

Old Glory has two different Byzantine armies including belasarian and late Romans also.

Aventine has been promising an early Byzantine range. They just have to complete their next interminable Hellenistic project.
