As an Englishman, who has a reputed confederate relation, I found the mini series on YOU TUBE. I must say the best showing of the rout at 1st Bull run by the federal troops. On episode 2 today. It has made me think what side would I choose if I was a southerner, stay loyal to my county or stick with the old government. |

Just another bug, happens quite a bit. For the youtube release did they edit out the helicopter flying around the Bull Run scene? It was a camera copter but it was plainly visible – taking up the top left side of the screen in one shot. |

I saw the series when it was originally on US TV. It was the first time I saw Stacy Keach in anything. I enjoyed the series, but have not seen it in a long time. I may have it on DVD or I may have had it on VHS tape. I will have to look. Thanks for commenting on it. Nice to hear an non-US point of view. |

Their uniforms looked like something I would have purchased from the Six Flags gift shop. |

I took part as a reenactor in the filming of the Bull Run sequences at Prairie Grove Battlefield Park in Arkansas. It was evidently the first effort to use reenactors in filming Civil War battle scenes. There was a hold-up on the first day's filming because professional practice required the film's ordnance chief to personally load each weapon (they were still using trapdoor breech loaders to stand in for Civil War muskets). After a gathering of big shots and reenactor representatives it was decided that out of necessity the reenactors could load their own. The big shots would work things out with the trade union--time is money! |

Great story William! were you able to find yourself in the film? |

William I was only there for a Long weekend, but enjoyed it much -- my group did it for Free -- only 2 Van-loads some Gas Money and a Gift for the Unit -- 14th Tenn. but based in Northern Va.& Maryland. The Union problems where gone when we got there. I also think it may have been the 1st time Hollywood used reenactors. Didn't you think the SAG people using Black-Painted Hush-Puppies for ACW shoes looked pretty Good. Ron |

Favorite parts: Gettysburg, shot in the fall somewhere. No foliage on the deciduous trees. Lincoln trying out a new army rifle and the tour bus goes by. Lastly, they seem to where the same uniform the entire war and it never tatters or gets dirty. Still, I enjoyed it when I was young and would watch it again should it air. |
