Just received this in the mail from Lori Brom announcing the upcoming 40th anniversary edition of the classic "The Sword and the Flame" Victorian colonial rules.

Lori said that they are planning a release late this year, November or December. Watch for more news!

Super! I will certainly want to get a copy.

nnascati Supporting Member of TMP23 May 2019 7:49 a.m. PST

I will probably get a copy just out of curiousity. I can't imagine what there is to change from the 20th.

Col Durnford23 May 2019 7:49 a.m. PST

Really looking forward to it.

Mr Jones23 May 2019 8:34 a.m. PST

Is this the oldest rule set still in publication?

Formerly Regiment Games Fezian23 May 2019 8:47 a.m. PST

Jones, I know that at least Starguard is older.

I have played TSATF, but do not own it. I will probably get this edition when it comes out.

Will order a copy the day it becomes possible to order.

I think I have a dozen or so different TSATF (not
variants) rule sets. All the variants also, of course.

Well, there are some things I'd address/correct, such as how hits from artillery are assigned, for example.

Lion in the Stars23 May 2019 3:03 p.m. PST

May pick this up when it comes out. I have the 20th anniversary version.

Nick,

There will be some updates and changes but the basic 20th edition is, as far as I know, not significantly changed. One of the main changes is the incorporation of the errata that Larry put out.

Of course I'm sure Lori will be giving us even more information as the publication release gets closer.

This is great news. I will definitively get it.

Cool. I remember when they were new. I feel old.

Which came first, though, the sword or the flame?

Can Zulus still run faster than a horse? ;)

This was the first miniature rules I purchased. Back in 1981 at the Tin Soldier in Dayton Ohio

coolyork24 May 2019 12:31 p.m. PST

I know at least a 1/2 dozen guys that will be buying the new set , can't wait !

Bismarck25 May 2019 9:39 a.m. PST

Gotta have it!

SgtGuinness01 Jun 2019 7:43 p.m. PST

Coolyork, only a 1/2 dozen buddy? Try a couple dozen just in our HMGS-South group, then our South Florida SMG group, then the Jacksonville Garrison, then Jackson Gamers, HMGS-East, our friends in Cali, Colorado, New Orleans, New York, Australia, Italy, etc, etc….

Lori sent me some postcards which I peppered the convention hall with, handed out, and put on all the TSATF game tables at Recon-2019.

Everyone who likes TSATF get the word out, watch the web, and the the Sergeants 3 website for updates.

Count me in !!! We play TSATF here in Arizona. I played it in Illinois. This is the best rule set for colonials. 40 years old, not a single wrinkle and still unmatched. No other rules can say that. Let's make sure it is true for the next 40 years.
Sergeant thanks for sharing the picture with Larry and George Carr Sr in your newsletter
It was an honor to know and game with both of them.
Semper Fi for those great gamers and Marines.

coolyork02 Jun 2019 7:34 a.m. PST
