All, Maybe 20 years ago, when I was heavily into the ACW for the first time, I found a series of books in a store near my office at the time. I believe they were the publications of a particular state. Each book as I recall, focused on a particular battle or campaign. I sold them when I got out of the period, but now that I am back, I would love to find them again. Anyone have an idea as to what they might have been? They were small books, maybe 5 x 7, and hard backed. |

I suspect the Civil War Campaign series is the set you were looking for in some edition. This one is out of print. ( link ) but you should be able to find it in some edition. First review lists the volumes. The Doubleday volume on Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, at least, is available on amazon. |

That might be them, but I recall a plainer dark blue binding. |

Sounds like you're looking for, "The Virginia Battles And Leaders Series" published by H.E. Howard Company in Lynchburg, VA. They came in a Dark Blue cover with the book Title and VA State Seal printed in Gold Leaf. Some of the titles were out of print at one time, but many of them are still available in the bookstores of many VA Battlefield Visitor Centers. |

For the centennial in 1960, many States supported the publishing of American Civil War books, especially on local history. I worked with a county who was trying to dispose of several local histories. The local museum had a lot. University depositories has many copies. It takes a little footwork and research to find them. A similar rush of publishing support happened between 1911-15 during the 50 year anniversary. Later a similar support happened prior to 1976 in support of the bi-centennial. |
