Inspired by some of the beautiful work exhibited here on the Age of Sail board recently, I'm finally getting back around to ship modeling. I'm a bit rusty after the more than 2 years (I couldn't believe it!) since I worked on a ship, but it feels good to be back at it. Nobody ever had too many frigates, so here is GHQ's 1:1200 HMS Shannon, whose name will never be forgotten as long as there are things called ships. This is a really fantastic casting, with remarkable detail to the hull. Can't wait to get on to the next one! More photos here if you're interested: link

"The British frigate's name, that for the purpose came To tame the Yankee's courage neat and handy, O! Was the Shannon, Captain Broke, with his crew all hearts of oak, And in fighting, you must know, he was the dandy, O!" Bravo Zulu |

Pah. Not impressed…. Nothing on my Airfix Shannon from late 1960s. I have tried to research the scale, but no one seems to agree on that. No idea what happened to it. Something to do with discovering folk with XX chromosomes and the Grateful Dead I think. OK it was a rubbish model and long…..long forgotten….unlike many others of the time |

Splendid work. I particularly like the colour of your sails. Thank you for sharing. :-) This is a lovely model, like all the GHQ Micronauts. I have one too, but mine isn't painted half as well as yours and isn't rigged at all. |
