It's time to move (if anyone will have them) some of my 1970s figures on so I'm eBaying a bunch. This one – like so many – hasn't been out of the box in 40+ years and I can't remember what it's supposed to be. I have a vague idea it may be Spanish light cavalry but I'm not sure.

Anyone know better?

There's a hint of Persia or Mesopotamia about it.

Definitely not Spanish. I have their Spanish infantry and cavalry. That is Persian IMHO. Don't remember that particular as I had only bought some Immortals.

If it's not Spanish LC it's at least painted as Spanish LC ….

It's the Spanish light cavalry, I'm sure. In the original AMPW, and the Minifigs range based on it, there were two cavalry figures, one helmeted with an oval shield and one with a small round shield. He wore a cap with a turned-up brim, based on a Spanish sculpture which – unfortunately – is usually identified as depicting a woman. The current equivalent (at link ) is PBC54.

(Certainly not Persian, with short sleeves and no trousers!)

I reckoned probably Spanish but wanted other opinions. I did go back through my various WRG Armies and Enemies books but couldn't find him but I'm sure he'll be there somewhere. I found him (part of a unit of 12) in a box with some Spanish Scutarii (LMI in 5th ed WRG Ancients which is what they are based for) so it seems likely. Mind you, there are some camels in the same box so maybe not.

Thanks for the input – they go on eBay as Spanish L Cavalry.

It's Spanish for sure, but not Minifigs.

That headress does not look Spanish, Iberian, Celtiberian. Full beard with long hair is more a near east fashion as is the hat.

Very likely but I wanted to know what they were sold as originally and, right or wrong, that's what Phil Barker reckoned a Spanish Light Cavalryman looked like and that's what they were sold as. I've found the original line drawing thanks to the help I've had so I'm happy now I have the correct ID.

It's Spanish for sure, but not Minifigs.

It definitely is Minifigs.

Sorry I was just thinking 15mm strip minifigs, not any other minifig range….:)
