What is the largest amount you've ever paid for a fully painted, ready to go miniature wargaming army?

(Convert prices to USD for comparison purposes, please.)

KSmyth15 May 2019 8:41 p.m. PST

I've paid for painted units, but not an entire painted army. I've traded for an entire painted army.

Do we count inflation?

chuck05 Fezian15 May 2019 9:34 p.m. PST

$50 USD for a brownie pan full of 80's era GW Skaven.

I have paid for painted figures at yard sales and flea markets, and then stripped the stripped the paint off. Does that count? I think the most was $10 USD for a box of Star Wars stormtroopers in about 25mm scale.

Chuckaroobob15 May 2019 10:16 p.m. PST

$1,800 USD for 1200 25mm figs for the Franco-Prussian War. It was back in the 1990's.

Never done it. $0 USD

I did have a friend of a friend donate her WFB starterset Imperial(?) army to me because her boyfriend made fun of her playing wargames. I guess that is a "full ready to play" army (though I repainted them into two warring factions).

So, again $0 USD

$700 USD for a ton of well painted 28mm SYW Russians – about 10 years ago

I've never bought painted ready-to-play figures.

I sold many of my own fully painted armies over the years getting from $2,500 USD to $10,000 USD for each army.

Back in the early 90s I was out of work and had not 2 nickels to rub together. I managed to scrape together enough dinero to attend an HMGS con in Pa, and quite strangely, I bought 2 painted armies there. It was the only time I ever bought painted figs.

I got a sweet Stone Mountain FFL and Arab set up with a painted Airfix FFL fort for $20. USD It came to about $.06 USD a fig. I also got a big AWI army for $40. USD That one came to about $.09 USD a fig. Both were solid 5's. The AWI needed dullcoating, but that was it.

Strange.

0 … I like to paint my own minis …

The Beast Rampant16 May 2019 7:52 a.m. PST

Technically I've never paid for a single *painted* mini. The one time I purchased a lot (here) that contained both nicely painted as well as bare metal minis, the seller considered the painted ones incidental. It was a great deal even without the painted ones.

I've thought about it many times, just never have.

Gokiburi16 May 2019 10:11 a.m. PST

The only ready to play figures I've bought were in a used black box copy of Chaos in the Old World that I bought from someone on TMP. I think I paid around $25 USD-30 for it (I can't find the post), and I was pleasantly surprised when the figures were already nicely painted. Thanks to whoever that was, I treasure your work.

Never done it. I suppose I might consider it when my eyesight really goes, but by then I should have everything I want

BTCTerrainman Supporting Member of TMP16 May 2019 1:01 p.m. PST

Hard to figure out as I have never bought an entire army, just groups of figures here and there. I just keep collecting….

Corporal Fagen16 May 2019 1:10 p.m. PST

never have

All at once: $250 USD for Hittites with a nice resin fort thrown in.

von Schwartz16 May 2019 5:56 p.m. PST

Never done it, probably never will. Hell, 1/2 the fun is the painting, research, reading, then admiring the product of your labors.

khanscom16 May 2019 7:07 p.m. PST

About $30 USD IIRC for a Stone Mountain Arab Colonial Army from a local game store in Berkeley. These were not totally nasty so I thought it was a good buy-- still have them for DBR and colonial games. This was a unique event, though.

PzGeneral17 May 2019 8:14 a.m. PST

$1,200 USD for a British and Mahdi armies set

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP17 May 2019 8:22 a.m. PST

Two or three hundred dollars.
