Are there some good gaming possibilities for the latter part of the 80YW, specifically those battles fought around the 30YW? I was reading some articles on line, and there seems like an additional use for ECW / 30YW miniatures for these battles, perhaps with more armor and some exotic uniforms and such. Thoughts and resources [media, etc] appreciated! |

Oh, yeah there is. We use Pikeman's Lament for that period. Anyway there are tons of raids and numerous small engagements. The Dutch even had a pole that was used for vaulting over dikes to get at the enemy in the night. Not counting the raids from sea. Just lots and lots of fights. link link So the links I've included is a color plate of the pole vaulter and the other is the Osprey of the Dutch 80's war there are two books in the series and I have both really good source of info.

The 80 Years War Facebook page is a great place to start. Also, Osprey's two books on the Dutch Army of the Eighty Years War appear to be very good. |

Thanks for info – I don't even know what to say about the pole vaulter, except that I'm surprised the Dutch don't medal in it with the Olympics more often. ;) What would be the right source for the Spanish Army, for the same period? Also, any good books on the many small battles and campaigns? I checked Helion, and there is a thick book on the Spanish army that is not yet published. |

You might also like "Pieter Snayers – Battle Painter", which has dozens of 17th Century paintings covering the Dutch – Spanish War and the 30 Years War. It's expensive, but well worth it. I believe you can get it from On Military Matters in the U.S. and Berliner Zinnfiguren in Europe. |

I might as that the Snayers book in mainly cases has rather detailed descriptions of the battles and sieges depicted. |
