Hi Guys, Here's a Rotte of Kriegsmarine minesweepers that I've finished. There's a few minor, non-stock changes to the armament (swapped the model's 37mm gun out for the more period correct 20mm cannon in the aft position). Also added some mock-up sweeping floats to the deck, made from cut-down US torpedoes. Although I corrected the armament to R23 standards, we might still use the 37mm stat on the card in-game (still undecided on this at the moment). Anyhow, here's this rotten pair ready for the next scenario we've got planned – an action in the Aegean – (these little boats should be getting a lot of action in the Cruel Seas games we'll be playing in the months ahead)!
Here's an interesting film clip of MinenRaumboote on a sweeping patrol - link |

I love the way that you have made all the colours pop. I must try harder. |

Appreciate the kind words Guys! DATHB, as you noted, I hit the top details with the original color (sometimes mixing in a few drops of white) – so those little pieces pop out at game viewing distance. The effect is not strictly authentic-looking for closeup photos, but a too realistic or weathered rendering might in fact make the model disappear into the seascape, and as gamers we do want our models to be seen and enjoyed. Since highlighting is one of those last things to do, we can always go back and do it later. Matter of fact, after posting these pics here, I've gone back and applied black wash into the holes on the hull sides for some additional effect (as an example, in the first photo above they're barely perceptible). |
