I see OG 15s have a sale going on right now. I got some of their Ottonians a while ago and hated their proportions. Do they vary in size? Does anything from their Medieval lines mix well with Essex? |

I like the sculpts on the Ottonians, myself aside from the size – OG15 a bit large. THey are the bulk of my BBDBA army. I nave HYW handgunners and longbows. Not my favorite OG15 sculpts by far (handgunners look to me like they are firing a more modern carbine/rifle – see the picture on the website). Large figures and not what I consider a match for Essex and I do have both. I also have their Normans and some of the Crusades lines (as well as Greeks, Romans, etc. from their other lines) – same size issue but nicer looking. |

I like OG infantry because more animated poses; cavalry a little less so, though the larger bases for the horses make it much easier to glue onto bases compared to Essex mounted figures. |

Not bad but the lances; units looked at in heat haze in the desert maybe. Ondulating? Unfortunately I have way too many in storage… |

Pass on them then. Thanks for the info. |

They are fairly large figures, but they are one of those ranges where seeing them in the bare lead doesn't do them justice – they paint up better than you might expect. Some of the ranges have much thinner lances than others, and really do need replacing. This is no worse than the ranges which come with separate lances and I usually do this with most figures anyway. There can be a bit more variety in figure size than I would normally like, and this is most pronounced with some of the horses. I replaced quite a few of the mameluke horses because of that. To get variety, there are ranges where the same bag has rather a wide variation of armour style – some of the Crusader bags have styles covering about a century. While there is the 'using their grandfathers' armour' argument, I don't like to see quite so much variety. I'm painting some of their Normans at the moment and they are coming out very well, so while I couldn't whole-heartedly endorse the range, there are lots of very good figures. |
