"The chaos in Venezuela could take down more than just the Maduro regime, according to one strategist.

"The Cubans are the ones who are running the show in Venezuela," Bulltick Chief Global Markets Strategist Kathryn Rooney Vera told Yahoo Finance's "On the Move" on Wednesday. "As soon as Venezuela falls, what we are going to see is Cuba fall in its wake."

Cuba is among numerous countries including Russia, China, and Iran that have stood firm behind President Nicolás Maduro…"

It's interesting to note that Cuba is doing essentially the same thing with its troops in Venezuela as Iran was/is doing with its troops and militias in Syria, propping up a dictator who would otherwise have been toppled by now absent their support. And Russia plays the role of puppet-master/ conductor in both countries.

Were Cuban troops successful intervening in Africa a few years ago? The factions they supported lost. They also lost in Grenada. They should lose in Venezuela. But no they are not next to fall.

Doubtful, though it would be nice.

A shame that wasn't dealt with back in the 1960s, as planned.

I heard on the radio that there are 20,000 – 25,000 Cubans in Venezuela, in addition to the 100 or so Russians.

Not sure how many Chinese and Iranians are there, but the latter are seeking the country's high-grade uranium for making bombs apparently, and have been doing so for quite some time.

It seems that nearly all of the worst of the bad guys in the world stick together. I guess you can be judged by the company you keep.

ISIS ought to get in on the act too.

I try not to view geopolitics through the prism of good vs. evil morality because I subscribe to Realpolitik. It's just another struggle between Eurasianism and Atlanticism, the modern day equivalent to Communism vs. Capitalism of the Cold War era.

It would give us a real reason to normalize relations with Cuba.

Thresher0103 May 2019 7:30 p.m. PST

My money's on de=normalizing relations with them before we "normalize" them any further, especially given the sonic attacks that occurred on our ambassadors and other people there, that have adversely affected their brains.

I certainly hope so.

So, sort of a "Domino Theory" in operation in the Caribbean?

@Garryowen: DAESH isn't stupid enough to get that close to Russian troops!
