Hi,
I come back to this post; I rewrite my following message about the Mitre/Shako changing for the Grenadiers of the Russian Army during the Battle of Austerlitz:

"I read the 3 or 4 posts regarding this topic, because I wanted to create my Russian Army for the battle of Austerlitz.
I simply summarize the information I've gotten here:
Every Grenadier Regiment had:
1 battalion grenadiers + 2 battallions fusiliers
Every Musketeer Regiment had:
1 battalion grenadier + 2 battalion musketeer.

The problem is the head-wear of the Grenadiers (and therefore of the Fusiliers). Did they fight with mitre or shako?
According to the information I've gotten, surely at the battle of Austerlitz fought with the mitre the following battalions of grenadiers:
*Novij Ingermanland Musketeer Rgt
*Old (starij) Ingermanland Musketeer Rgt
*Moskowskij (grenadier regiment)
*Vladimirskij Musketeer Rgt
*Kievskij (grenadier regt)
*Fanagoriskij (grenadier regt)
*Narvskij Musketeer regt
*Malorossiski (grenadier regt)

(Obviously there is also the Pavlov regiment and some others that by sure wore the mitre at the epoch, but they didn't participate to the battle of Austerlitz: *Pavlov, *Ekaterinenbourg etc )

Starting from an information about the Caucasian inspection where it is told that "all men of that inspection"already wore the shako, I considered that if the grenadiers of that regiment in that particular inspection wore mitre also the other regiments of the same inspection did the same; this system will give a quite accurate idea of the regiments that at the battle of Austerlitz wore the mitre. And so:

Furthermore,I noted that all the Grenadiers REGIMENTS whose headwear was found on the battlefield of Austerlitz were MITRES and not shako.
This gave me the idea/supposition that at the battle of Austerlitz the all the Grenadiers Regiment (still) wore the mitres, while the Grenadiers battalions of the Musqueteers Regiment could wore mitre or shako according to the level of supply of the new head-wear.

Moreover, considering that the Pavlov Regiment still wore the Mitres at the Battle of Eylau in 1807 and or its bravery was allowed to keep the mitre as a "reward", this means that carrying the mitre was considered something very prestigious, and probably the Grenadiers made some obstrucrtion for the changing of the mitre to the shako, as far as the year 1805.

So I went on with the checking of Musketeers regiments for their grenadiers regiment; I noticed that the Ukraina, Dniester, Kiev inspection wore (some evidences) the miters, while the others (brest – with exepion of the historical regiment Old Ingerland – and Lithuania Inspections) wore shako.Probably this inspections were far away from the supply of material ( I imagine Ucraina etc.)"

But no idea if the fusiliers wore the mitres of the shake; I can suppose yes, but any suggestions?
thanks

Perry now makes Fusiliers for the Pavlov's Grenadier regiment. They are wearing a fusilier cap in the Prussian/Hessian style. I would guess Shakos for non-grenadier regiments.

From what I've found Narva had mitres so I'm painting them with the musketeers still in cocked hats, and the grenadiers in mitre. The Moscow Grenadier regiment (or at least the Grenadier bn.) was in mitre as late as Eylau, so I am putting the fusiliers in fusilier mitres. Mr Gingerich's website on Russian facings states "The Pavlovsk Grenadiers famously wore their miters through the Wars, redistributing the grenadier and fusilier miters by company with the 1811 restructuring". An interesting look with the grenadier coy. in grenadier mitres and the rest in fusilier mitres.

Thanks, so at the very end I think that the Grenadiers regiments that wore the Miters (as far as we know or we think) had

1 Grenadier battalion with mitres
2 Fusilier Battalions with "hessian" mitres

No evidence of Grenadier Regiments with miters for the Grenadier Battalions AND shako for the Fusiliers Battalions
