A TYW history question about supply: which armies suffered most (lost most people) from supply issues in the TYW?

Daniel S02 May 2019 4:03 a.m. PST

All of them? Jokes aside we don't have enough records to make an estimate and it is hard to separate losses by cause even when the records exist.

The Imperial army had some of the most well known incidents thanks to Gallas aka the Wrecker of armies. On several occasions he led his troops into areas devoid of supplies or was severly interdicted by enemy troops and the men suffered accordingly.

But Protestants had their problems, the Swedes had a number of starvation retreats and the so called English Army led by Hamilton was close to wiped out in a year due to lack of support.

What about the Spanish army in Flanders(ok not a pure TYW army)

Thanks both. I looked up Gallas' wikipedia entry and was delighted to find that he gave rise to the word 'marauder'!
