On October 13th 1307 King Philip IV of France attacked the Knights Templar.
As most of you reading this probably know, the historical reality is that he did this via an arrest order, followed by torture and prosecutions that lasted until the order's last Grandmaster, Jaques de Molay, was burned at the stake in 1314, after recanting his previous confession of having denied Christ.
This coming Monday night at 10pm on History (formerly known as "The History Channel") we take some liberties with history while trying to remain true to the setting of early 14th Century France and the essential dynamics of the relationship between Philip, his Royal government, and the Templars.
As mentioned in the title for this thread, these liberties include a full scale siege, some pics of which I have posted below. I feel obligated to mention that the siege features a couple of centuries ahead of its time petard.
Last but not least, in a stroke of historical and dramatic serendipity we weave in a semi-contemporaneous event from the court of Philip IV: the Tour de Nesle affair, which -- like the execution of Grandmaster de Molay and his fellow Templar leaders -- occurred in 1314.
