Russian battalions within the same infantry regiment were identified by different coloured pom poms on their shakos. While the pattern for the musketeers seems to be agreed upon, the design for grenadiers and strelki seems to be less so. The two patterns I have seen for the third battalion are either sky blue with a red or yellow centre or divided horizontally with red or yellow on top and sky blue below.

Can anyone suggest a definitive answer or were both patterns in use in 1812?

It's a forest of trees information but definitely take time to read the site.
I early in this project followed books ( before the internet) and had the early units with the light blue pom Poms but within the last few months changed all to red with yellow.
I at first used any uniforms from 1807 – 14 but stuck with 1812 recently so have my grenadiers as per the divisional period.
