Yesterday I posted some comments about a new book on Napoleon's great cavalry general, Lasalle. I mentioned some other books dealing with or including Lasalle wirtten by that outstanding Napoleonic cavalry historian David Johnson.

One of these, a novel, by Mr. Johnson involved Lasalle in Egypt. A couple of people commented about an interest in that book. Today I realized I stupidly gave the title incorrectly.

The correct title is Bonaparte's Sabres. I incorrectly gave it as Napoleon's Sabres.

It is only in paperback to my knowledge. Here is a link to it on Bookfinder.

My understanding is that it is out of print. It is pretty expensive, except for one copy that may be sold at any moment. That one is on ebay UK and even has a letter included from Mr. Johnson. It should be on the top line of the right column of the Bookfinder link above.

I want to stress again that Bonaparte's Sabres is a novel. But a novel by a magnificent historian like David Johnson can be relied upon to be historically accurate. He does add conversation, everyday details of living, and one or several fictional characters.

Thanks Tom…I'm considering it.

I managed to get a copy a few years back. It is a good read and I recommend it. It is well worth persevering in the search. I also have 'Sabre General', by the same author. It is a novelisation of Lasalle's life. Again a good read worth hunting out.
