Anyone play this "X-Wing by way of Wings of Glory" game from Ares? Vipers and Cylon Raiders from the 2004 TV series are in the base game. Why is it called "Starship Battles"? When people say "starships" I think of capital ships like cruisers and dreadnoughts. If they plan to include starships they would be huge.

I've played it a few times and quite enjoy it. While I've never played X-Wing, from what I've heard of it I would say that BSG is more like a Sails or Wings of Glory than it is X-Wing. As for the big ships, they are doing those as well, although at a somewhat smaller scale. That being said, they will still be very large compared to the fighters.

I would have much preferred seeing a starship game with the big ships. There are more than enough space fighter games out there right now.

8.3 rating on BGG. One comment:

"Can you imagine playing just one ship in an X-Wing game, alongside 2-3 others on your team? I can't. I'd be bored out of my mind.

I've done that with BSG already. Flying is an actual challenge, because you have much more to take into account, plus anticipating your opponent. Controlling a single ship in a dogfight is incredibly satisfying."

And the plastic control consoles are really cool :)

You actually manage your KE? I may need to check that out!

I'm also intrigued because you're actually the fighter jock in this game as opposed to the section/flight leader in X-Wing, but I'll hold off til Ares releases a BSG TOS starter set with the "real" Cylon Raiders. Never cared for the 2004 techno-organic "Necron" version.

The title "Starship Battles" unnerved me. RC "SW Starship Battles". Cap ships all rougly 4in.
And IIRC, once lined up on the table, it served NO Point to move. Most wpns were fwd. & you could Only fire from one arc per turn. I.e. space age Nap warfare: Form line, stand and shoot.

Granted the Rep. CA (Venator) is still one of THE coolest ever, so got 3 of them, a few CIS ships and made Home Rules.

LOVE to see the classic BSG done as 3-4 in. plastic. (possible conversions?). Any hint if the Battlestars & Baseships are all that are planned, or other support ships as well?
Greatest concern; some SW SB mini's were misshaped (released too soon from molds) God forbid a repeat w/ this project.

But you can bet, if they are well produced, I would not hesitate to get'm. I'd hate to think they'll only be available as the core game.
Other wise after getting the Cap ships, head straight for Studio Bergstrom for fighters. They seem to have a great selection for both TOS & '94 ReBoot.
