The photos and footage just make me feel sick. Such a magnificent symbol of Western civilisation and culture. Very sad. |

As promised, you can donate directly to the Fondation du patrimoine " at the following adress: fondation-patrimoine.org There are english pages too, you can access in cliking on the "en savoir plus"figure on the picture of burning Notre Dame, then at the top of the page you will find a small "english" word in red, just clik. Back from The Invalides where I attended a conference yesterday night, my taxi drove along the river bank, and the driver a moslem from Algeria, told me, :"what a pity, never been in there, I should have done that before". |

With 400 Parisian firemen battling to save the building, I will bet there was more than one Moslem amongst them, risking his or her life possibly, to save a Christian building. The thought gives hope anyway…… |

Are those firemen lineal descendants (as an organization) from the sapeurs-pompiers Napoleon organized after the 1810 fire? |
gboue2001 | 17 Apr 2019 11:31 a.m. PST |
@ Nine pound round yes, you are right the firemen in Paris (BSPP) Brigade des sapeurs pompiers de Paris belong to a military unit founded in 1811. This unit is the only one in french army that has served the country whatever the political regime was, kingdom, Empire, Republic without being disbanded. |

You all know that the French Revolutionaries wanted to tear it down, right? It was Napoleon who saved it. Yeah, Bonaparte! |
