We use Field of Glory for both our Ancient and Renaissance gaming.

There is much of a positive nature to say about the rules but we feel they can be a little clinical.

A while ago, I wrote event cards for the Ancient(Punic & Chariot-age) gaming. These worked well: pick one at the start of each ame turn. I put the word 'Fate' on their back (with suitable art work) because all referred, one way or another, to the gods. eg "The gods guide our missiles: for one turn all thrown weapons have their range doubled" etc. This seemed to fit the periods where there was a strong belief in the sometimes arbitrary involvement of deities in the human world.

I am working on an ECW set of event cards & my creativity has run dry in terms of what to enerically call them. "Fate" doesn't seem appropriate and obviously, "Event Cards" is dull. What period relevant term can I use to label my cards?

They will be used in battles between Cavaliers & Roundheads, Montrose's army & the Covenanters & various mixtures of these.

How about "Cruel Necessity"? Or call them "Favour Cards" from Cromwell after the battle of Marston Moor:

"TRULY ENGLAND AND THE CHURCH OF GOD HATH HAD A GREAT FAVOUR FROM THE LORD, IN THIS GREAT VICTORY GIVEN US."

@ Codsticker.

You are good. I like both ideas. Thank you.

Hmm. How about "Will of God" cards? Seems appropriate for a period with intense religious wars, maybe.

Faith cards?

Both factions claimed God was on their side.

Was it Ireton who said "God must wonder who is on his side?"

Have fun.

Favour cards would get my vote for a first past the post system, or if single transferable vote favour cards 1, will of God 2

'Divine Right'

'Righteous Judgements'

'Divine Right'

I could have two sets of cards put on either side of the table. They'd be marked "Divine Right" & "Divine Left".

More seriously, a wealth of suggestions. Thank you.
