I've started to build a WOTR army for gaming with my regular opponents. In this weeks blog, I show how I've painted my first batch of Foot Knights. As the period is new to me I'm looking for guidance when it comes to painting colours on the Knights' Tabards. I've just purchased a nice little book from Vexillia that has been recommended in previous posts and this has given me some ideas but seems more concerned with Standards rather than what the troops wore. Here's the link to the blog. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I like them! I sometimes paint the tassets in heraldic colours but have no evidence that this actually happened

I paint my knights in a reverse order than you, i.e. prime in black, paint in silver and then wash with black ink; your results are superb and I must give this a think

A tabard would normally carry the wearer's arms, which would also be borne on the banner – not the standard.

So which booklet have you got? Vexillia sell two relevant Freezywater books: "Standards, Badges & Livery Colours of the Wars of the Roses" and "Heraldic Banners of the Wars of the Roses". So you might need the second book for coats of arms to put on tabards. Or see link (fourth "spoiler" button) for a lot of coats of arms.
