Palaeo Diet: The Tribe!

The Kickstarter campaign for Palaeo Diet: The Tribe! will be going live tomorrow, Tuesday the 9th of April, at 2PM UK time.

Based on the illustrations in the Palaeo Diet rule book the Cavefolk are based on 28mm scale bodies with oversized heads.
Those of you already in possession of a copy may recognise some of the faces.
;)

The Tribe will initially feature six bodies and six heads, enabling thirty six different possible combinations to create the hunting party of your choice.

With a Hound as a Stretch Goal and Captain Mancave as an optional Add-On the chance for the Tribe to grow and flourish are there….

A few more shots of them….

These miniatures look cutedorable! I've been waiting for BB to offer miniatures I'm *really* interested in, and this may be it!

Have you posted this KS on the Reaper Kickstarter forums yet? Mention that you have 45 KS worth of experience, and the Palaeo Diet rule book. Reaper KS4 backers are receiving dinosaur and caveman add-ons, which should work with the Palaeo game and your mini's!

Thanks for the tip-off ced1106
Much appreciated.

I shall be making critturs if this campaign is successful enough to warrant it.
In the meantime I have been delving in my bits box/leadpile/trashstash etc to find stuff that will work well enough for now.

Here is the first offering, a cheap toy dinosaur, the Poundshopasaurus…

Here are a few more, small grazer types that I will considering to be like antelope…..

They are Okroi from Forge of Ice.
Wonderful delicate sculpts.

They come with panniers which will be very handy for future conversions for my sci-fi project too.
Result!
:D

A couple more meals for the Cavefolk, this time in the guise of some larger Grazer types….

These are Grok from the Krakon Games Flora and Fauna KS. Lovely chunks of resin.
Again, these were speed painted using simple drybrushing and then washes.
:)

And here they are about to be introduced to Mrs Spear….

The KS campaign has now Funded and can be found here:

The first Update has been posted on the campaign page with some thoughts on how the finished critturs from the stash can be used in the Palaeo Diet setting….

The last of the current batch of creatures for my Palaeo Diet project, this time in the form of a Crittur….

Critturs are a bonus source of food in Palaeo Diet, which can be flushed out by a Hunter moving through Thickets but they can be a Bleeped text to catch!
This little chap is a Jibber, from Krakon Games, and looks perfect for something doing a mad dash to escape the clutches of a hungry Hunter.

The next update will, hopefully, feature an Apex Predator of a kind probably not expected.
Fingers crossed I get him done this week….

Last night myself and my mate Bert got a couple of games of Palaeo Diet in.

It began with the Hunters waiting patiently by the river as a herd of Grazers set to drinking and munching the shrubbery….

In the first game, which we took as a 'training game' as Bert had not read any of the rules beforehand (and they are not difficult as the second game attests with Bert taking over running the Hunt with ease ;)).

We needed to accumulate two points of Bulk for each Hunter taking part for the Hunt to be considered successful.

As we each ran two Hunters we would need eight points, with the smaller Herd Grazers being worth two and the Giant Grazer having a value of four points.

We came damn close in the first game, having taken down three Herd Grazers and wounding a fourth before they escaped our clutches.

In the second game we decided to use much more stealth and get as close as possible to the Giant Grazer to try and take him down with a concentrated attack.
It did not go all according to plan as one of our Hunters, Bet Lunch, was firstly the victim of a Stampede (from which she rather luckily emerged unscathed!) before she was attacked by the Giant Grazer itself and Wounded. (That 'lucky' leopard skin dress of hers was not so 'lucky' after all!)

The Giant was eventually taken down, along with three of the smaller Herd Grazers, and therefore we managed to accumulate ten points of Bulk and a Successful Hunt was declared, with much cheering from the Tribe!

In the post-game sequence we checked on Bet's injury, which resulted in her being psychologically scarred by her experience meaning she would be suffering from the Timid rule in the next Hunt.

On the upside Niels, the bowman, was declared 'Man of the Hunt' and gained the Calm skill which would enable him to be more adept at Ambushing in future.

Here are some shots from the games in no particular order….

Mad Sid creeps up on the Giant Grazer, stone axe at the ready….

Bet is about to be the victim of a Herd Stampede!

The Hunters creep up on the Giant Grazer….

Bet was having a really bad day at the office…..

The remainder of the Herd Grazers escape….

All in all a very entertaining evening and we shall be introducing this to the rest of our group as we both reckon it will be great fun as a light-hearted group game with everyone controlling a Hunter each.
I can see plenty of fun and games ahead with this one!
(Oh, and it can be played solo, so I can always have a crack at it on my own if I am feeling bored. :D).
