With the release of the new Chaos Havoc rules and the new Reaper Chaincannon, I can imagine a lot of people will want to take full advantage of the new Heavy 8 gun. The only thing that I'm a bit miffed at is that despite there are 2 of each weapon in the new Havoc box (which is great), there is only one chaincannon.

I was looking to find out what ppl's plans were for fielding more of these. As I wouldn't mind 4 of them myself but doubt I'll be buying 4 Havoc boxes just for the guns.

I've come across a few alternatives that could work well, the best of which were these:

I also pulled together an article on Chaos Reaper Chaincannon Alternatives with a list of the different options I'd found so far. Has anyone tried any of these?

Just get them from bits sellers like window-box or Hoards'O Bits on EBay. It probably won't be cheap and you'll be competing with other like-minded bidders, but it's still a lot cheaper than buying another box set just for an extra weapon.

But if the alternative non-GW gatling guns are cheaper and you don't play tournaments, then go for it.

Perhaps the idea is that they are each made uniquely? If your looking at using other comps cannons, you may as well go the cheaper, faster and more convenient way and just convert the other guns to be chain cannons.

If you look at the chaincannon and heavybolters, you will see they are the same gun (almost) with a different barrel. Just trim off the bolter barrel, drill 6 small holes and glue in lengths of wire or brass. Cut a circle of card or plastic and make 6 holes to create the discs shown (or just wrap wire, or use green stuff), then some foil with some more holes and wrap around the shooty end. Done.

Problem solved! GW can't count.

If you look at the sprues, the one with the heavy bolter also has the chain cannon, thus you get two, not one as listed. I think the issue may be that they use the same ammo box?

Perhaps use the auto Cannon back pack/ammo in some manner, or simply give the guy a big Cape that the feed disappears under. You could also leave the feed loose and just bend it so it's flying around erratically and looking cool.

So, to end my nonsense. Use 2 chain cannons supplied, convert 2 heavy bolters, give 2 of them the ammo, the other 2 loose feeds, capes, or other ammo, add your front man and you have a chain Cannon squad good to go from just one box.

The proteus pattern rotor-cannon, 5 for $21 USD from Forge World:

They are out of stock right now, probably because a lot of other punters had the same idea.

Yeah let's buy 5 weapons to equip 2 warriors at almost half the price of the boxed set.

They really should have them available separately.

Otherwise good pick pics.

Maybe that's one for the eBay sellers, buy sets of 5 weapons and then sell them separately?

"If you look at the sprues, the one with the heavy bolter also has the chain cannon, thus you get two, not one as listed. I think the issue may be that they use the same ammo box?"

Actually if you look at them you see that there is a sprue missing from their pictures. You seem to have assumed that you get two of the second sprue pictured but that doesn't add up.

If that were the case you would only get one missile launcher, one lascannon and only four marines.

So there must be another sprue in the box with lascannon, heavy bolter, missile launcher, reaper auto cannon and two marines on it.

So GW can count and you are buying 5 weapons from forget world to equip 3 guys, or possibly five if you wanted to use some of your regular CSMs too. Then you could field it as a late heresy heavy support unit too with 6 rotor cannons.

Here are some more ideas to maximize your Havocs' firepower:

Actually pics, I am assuming you get two of each sprue. Thus 2 of each weapon, and 2 champions (You could use 1 as a marine if needed).

If there was a third sprue they forgot to put it up. What would be on it? A bolter and auto cannon? Seems a waste of a mould when they could just give you another of the same sprue, as I suspect they do.

So either they forgot to show the third sprue, or they made a typo with number of chain cannons. Whoops either way.

I will not mention the possibility that they could have said 1 chain cannon on purpose, I'll leave that to others.

If I have this all wrong, please be specific as to how. Look at the sprues closely. Should there be a third sprue instead of just 2 of each shown? What would be on it? Why is it not shown?

Looks like we were both right.

There is an extra sprue that GW neglected to show, for some reason known only to themselves.

I think we played into their hands as it is a good, if devious, way to get folks talking about it.

Then again, there is still the matter of 1 chaincannon…

"Look at the sprues closely"

I looked at the sprues closely. I told you what was on the third sprue.

The H Man05 Apr 2019 5:16 p.m. PST

I suspect you said what you thought was on it. Feel free to link the photo of the mysterious third sprue you looked at. I still have not seen it, only going from second hand info. From looking at the two sprues shown it could have gone either way. It still seems odd to have third sprue with nothing different on it, just more variants of the same.

Perhaps the Phantom sprue was not ready with the others and not samples were available? Perhaps they are altering it to include another chaincannon? As review boxes seem to have gone out, I doubt it. GW just want people talking about it…Doh!
