Do you purchase sample figures before making a large order?

Not usually. I try to see the quality of a makers work at a show but normally put in my full order at one time. Nowadays the quality of most manufacturers is reasonably in line with the price.

Not since the internet became available.

Yes, I think you have to paint a few to really make a decision either way. The models might look beautiful and have loads of detail but they might be hard work to paint. I've had that with one of my projects and I now wouldn't have started it had I just painted one box of six castings.

14Bore03 Apr 2019 2:03 p.m. PST

Often but just made a huge order for me as many rave it wasn't a issue.

Fat Wally03 Apr 2019 2:08 p.m. PST

Never.

Not so much for the figures, but to see how the company is. Nothing liking dropping $200 USD with a company that just doesn't respond.

Define large?

I used to, but now I mostly stick with manufacturers I already know and trust. If I want to try a new one, I'll either ask someone local if they have any or I do a small test order.

raylev303 Apr 2019 5:29 p.m. PST

No, but I never buy miniatures unseen unless I've seen the product at a show, shop, or a friends collection.

Yes. I prefer to do this. I have to say I ask for a few samples – free. They are totally different in the 'flesh' as to seeing them on the internet.

And I applaud the retailers that send samples. Sometimes I have made a purchase just to support them even though I may not be totally in love with the miniatures. I support the industry.

Always

No, but then I rarely buy large amounts of figures anyway.

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP04 Apr 2019 3:36 a.m. PST

Yes, if I haven't seen them in the flesh.

irishserb04 Apr 2019 4:30 a.m. PST

Rarely, but have been doing so recently, as I'm looking into buying miniatures from companies that don't have pics ont he web.

Vigilant04 Apr 2019 5:03 a.m. PST

No. I buy the majority of my figures at shows, so I've seen what I'm buying at the time.

Sample first? Always.

Purchase a sample ..? Not often. I am in the same boat with many of the above – I've seen them somewhere else; I am seeing them when I buy.

Occasionally I will buy a few sample figures from different lines to see how they paint up before committing to a large order.

Old Contemptibles04 Apr 2019 8:23 p.m. PST

Always.
