"Sometimes it's best not to think about just how many nukes are out there.

Nuclear weapons are enormously destructive devices capable of level entire cities, and arguably ending human civilization in the case of an all-out nuclear exchange. But what if humankind, for some bizarre reason, decided to set all of them off at once? The YouTube channel Kurzgesagt followed this thought experiment to its apocalyptic conclusion, and it's not pretty…."

No need to read the article, I can say with confidence that we would make a really big mess.

I think if everyone saw the film "Threads" no one would be in favor of any country developing or keeping any nuclear weapons.
"Threads" is the most graphic and disturbing film made on the subject of nuclear war and the aftermath.

If we did it *just* right, we could shoot off into space and travel the galaxy! Woohoo!.

Of course, since we'd be leaving the sun behind, we'd soon freeze to death, but isn't a little discomfort worth it?

Well, we can't. At least not all in one place. Is "fratricide" still a valid concept?
You would need exquisite timing to set them all off in one place simultaneously. A puny Hiroshima device detonating prematurely could destroy a Tsar Bomba before it could go off, ruining all the fun.
Set them off in situ if you really want to carry off this experiment. Of course ballistic missile submarines would have to launch all of theirs to avoid the fratricidal danger.
It could be done, with international cooperation, but would it be worth the mess? I will leave that for wiser heads to decide.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."
