The long-delayed return to my Ghostbusters project sees me delving deep into the obscure corners of Aztec mythology and finding treasure in the Jewelled Fowl…

I'm aware of writing about the same overall comment on every one of your posts here, CC, but I must say again how I enjoy your rambles on the blog. You write very well and I always come away with fresh ideas for my own games.

Your discussion of the Aztec (evil) turkey god of disease and pestilence was doubly inspiring: not only was it another chance to shake the head at how odd, and sometimes terrifying, that culture was, but it also dovetails nicely into my own current project, which focuses on conquistadors versus Maya, possibly with Aztecs and Mixtecs to be added later. Even though the Maya are my chosen culture, that god may have to make an appearance. I've already done a preliminary reconnaissance of e-bay for suitable turkey models!

Thank you for the inspiration, and do keep us posted on further progress!

Interesting idea!

Thank you both for your comments.

Gone Fishing – That's very kind of you to say. If you're planning on doing a Conquistador vs Maya project, you might like to check out Antediluvian Miniatures new range "Conquerors of Mictlan", which has some nice conquistador adventurers, conquistador zombies, Mictlan zombies, undead jaguar warriors and a couple of Mictlan liches. Can be found here:

If you're after a good range of South American mythological creatures, Gods and warriors, the Going Native: Warpath range by Paymaster Games is worth a look. Their eBay store can be found here:

Finally, Outpost Wargames has a nice range of Aztecs, Inca and Mayans which are pretty inexpensive – their 28mm Inca Mummy is only £1.00 GBP! But their website is a bit old-fashioned and you have to email your order, rather than buy from the site itself. The link will take you to the main page only, then you click on 'Ranges' on the left hand side, then select which category you want. Their ranges are more historical, than fantastical, but are very nicely sculpted for the price.

Hope that gives you a few more options for your game.

Thank you for all the recommendations! These are good times for Mesoamerican gaming, no question. The truth is I'm doing this project in 54mm, using unpainted plastic figures from a Russian company called Chintoys. They make Conquistadors, Aztecs, Inca, Mixtecs and Maya figures; the Maya especially are breathtaking – like they stepped out of an old frieze.

Out your way they are available here:

Perhaps they could be gods or spirits in your project if you're so inclined!
