"If you could travel back in time five centuries, you'd encounter a thriving Aztec empire in Central Mexico, a freshly painted "Mona Lisa" in Renaissance Europe and cooler temperatures across the Northern Hemisphere. This was a world in the midst of the Little Ice Age (A.D. 1300 to 1850) and a period of vast European exploration now known as the Age of Discovery.

But what if we could look 500 years into the future and glimpse the Earth of the 26th century? Would the world seem as different to us as the 21st century would have seemed to residents of the 16th century? For starters, what will the weather be like?…."

I don't know what it may look like, but I fear it's going to be a very lonely place. Too much hate, too much pollution, too much apathy…

JimSelzer31 Mar 2019 4:53 a.m. PST

it will either be a plush paradise or a barren slag pile

There are basically two options:

Apokalips, DC Universe

The Future That is AKU!

Extrabio1947 seems to have a rather dim opinion of mankind.

Probably more or less round.

I heard that we only have 12 years left, so why worry about 500 years from now?

It will be a lot like today folks unless there are huge advances in technology that is affordable

Hey Legion, maybe you can have your head frozen and re-attached to a cyber body, kinda like Futurama.

Just a thought.

'Cept that coopman is right, just 12 years, bummer!

The Earth will still be here and look about the same. 500 hundred years is the blink of an eye from a geological standpoint.

Technology will change, but humankind will still struggle with the old issues of good governance.

Think of the science fiction of a few decades ago. What did they get right and what was completely missed. In this era of smart phones and flat screen tv's; it seems funny seeing bulky crt's and wires on spaceships as envisioned just a short time ago.

I expect that there will be news releases to the effect of: "Long-term study concludes that appropriate diet and exercise contribute significantly to health and longevity" and "Long-term study concludes that inhaling smoke in any form increases the risk of getting cancer".
