Hello everyone, What are the differences between the British Army uniforms of the WAS and those of the SYW ? Thank you |
Gunfreak | 30 Mar 2019 1:19 a.m. PST |
WAS, coat more buttoned up, and waist belt on the outside of the jacket.
SYW, as far as I know, the actual uniform was the same, but they now carried the jacket open to show the vest and the waist belt was in the inside of the jacket.

Ah ok thank you,in the SYW the waist belt was in the inside of the jacket as for the hanovrians of the WAS ? And there is no question of a ventral cartridge pouch? And the wings for grenadiers are generalized in December 1752, is that it? The beginning of change of uniforms ("regulations"?) in the British army are being made in 1742 for the WAS and 1751 for the SYW(before the SYW)? |

In fact, Hanoverians infantrymen of the WAS could almost pass for British infantrymen of the SYW ? |

What scale figure? Even in 28mm, a frugal gamer could certainly use same figures for both. |

I said this for 28/30 mm but I checked, there is the absence of small differences like the whiskers and the ventral cartridge pouch which are blatant … |

I do 15mm 7YW figures for the western theater using Minifigs; Frontier; Freikorps and have only done 6 battalions of British – the second wave with a good mix of facing colours. I have not painted any grenadiers for them. But this tread has me looking at Liliane & Fred Funcken's Lace Wars books (in French) with what appear to be highly-detailed uniform schematics, probably for the grenadier uniforms. The variances: Brown bullet pouches for 27 regiments up through the 50th in the WAS, black for all in the 7YW. None of the WAS illustrations has shoulder wings, so perhaps these are for center companies men. For 7YW, shoulder wings are shown only for the 4th; 5th; 8th; 16th; 17th; 18th; 19th; 20th; 22nd; 25th; 26th; 27th; 31st; 32nd; 33rd; 34th; 46th; 48th and 49th. 19 regiments of 49 illustrated. Not my preferred era. I am very much in the Peninsular War, British, Portuguese, Spanish against the French. I welcome comments, additions, corrections to help us all learn. GdeP |

Many of your questions may be answered by looking at the DAVID MORIER (1705?-70) paintings in the Royal Collection, link They were painted for the Duke of Cumberland – of his Army. |

Oh yes and that is good too, right? Military Drawings and Paintings in the Royal Collection of Her Majesty the Queen. Complete in two volumes by A.E Haswell Miller (Author), N.P.Dawnay (Author) |

I believe the uniforms were fairly different. So if you are looking to use figures for both, it depends on how fussy you are. I'm fussy, so it wouldn't work for me. LoL |

Neither do I have to take Hanoverians to make Hanoverians … |

WAS you're operating under the 1742 Clothing Warrant. 7YW your under the 1750-1 Clothing Warrant. Gunfreak gave you the basics, but for the &YW lots more lace and changes in facing colours for many non-Royal regiments. |
