unfortunately Thiers is very much responsible for legend building and a lot of mistakes – there he was consulted extensively – a lot crept into recent works – I usually ignore it completely.

I have said this before.

I will say it again.

This is an incredible resource for those of us who may be innocenti to the Internet and its potential. Right now it is superb, but within two weeks how will any novice find this?

I suspect the answer is dead obvious, some key word on a search and I would bet my three sons would laugh at me for asking this………but how is this preserved for all?

Musketballs07 Apr 2019 4:16 p.m. PST

In a perfect world, people will keep adding any useful stuff they find, or links to any (legal) books they want to have quick access to for future reference. This will keep bumping it back to the top or thereabouts.

If it drops into obscurity, well, obviously people weren't finding the thread all that useful. Cyber-Darwinism in action grin

Musketballs07 Apr 2019 4:27 p.m. PST

@ vW: I know Thiers isn't remembered for scrupulous accuracy. But if I started filtering the list for anything dubious, biased or inaccurate, that would rule out any number of well-known histories and a huge chunk of memoirs.

I'm really trying not to be judgemental about what I add here…if it's often cited, or regarded as significant, or an interesting or entertaining read, then that's good enough. People can make their own minds up about it.

@deadhead

create a word file – name it useful links, then copy and paste
those information with links – then in about 6 months time, you still will find it easily.

Funny enough, despite being a total IT ignoramus, I have long maintained just that. It is now massive and unwieldy frankly but full of links. many of which no longer work.

Glad you reminded me though, to do just that! Thanks

It is probably worth linking this thread to this old thread which has lots of useful stuff in it: TMP link
