If you have access to the TALKING PICTURES TV channel on Freeview, Sky etc., you might want to watch tonight's episode of CALLAN. It is entitled AN ACT OF KINDNESS, and features a visit to a wargames show, and two Napoleonic wargames.

I forgot to mention that the old TRADITION shop in Piccadilly is also featured, and that the actor who plays the shop assistant was also a wargamer.

I have the DVDs, but seeing the trailers on TPTV got me to get them out of the cupboard again!

Just watched it.

They don't play games like that anymore.

The wargame room created for the programme is to die for!

And it was good that the wargamer wasn't cast as the villain of the piece, which is often the case!

Gaming as it should be, and once was, complete with pipe smoking.

I'm so sad I noticed one of the RHA limbers must have been scratch built because it had an Airfix cowboy horse hitched up!

I do remember watching this on TV as a youngster (very – about four or five). Episodes of Callan were shown in the early afternoons so I must have been off sick from primary school.

It's also fun to listen for Russell Hunter's Scots accent occasionally breaking through….

Interesting

I also noticed the mid-game snack was a bowl of baked beans.

The director probably wanted sound effects.
