Do you have certain technologies in your games that your friends can never seem to handle properly?

Lion in the Stars14 Mar 2019 1:19 p.m. PST

Fire. (And thermal detonators)

Not yet, but I am concerned that soon younger players will not be able to fill out a character sheet with a pencil. I expect them to take pictures of the character sheets with their phones, edit the pictures, and save them as pdfs.

Soaring Soren14 Mar 2019 2:39 p.m. PST

You're right, Oberlindes.
Checking a young adult's passport application form in the lowly government office I run can be painful.

Fortunately for me, most of them (especially the males) have their mommies fill the forms out for them…

I have taken part in the last couple Dungeons & Dragons Adventurers League nights at my FLGS. I have to say that the number of "phone character sheets" was very very sad. Isn't the point of pen & paper games to break out the pens and paper?

Dynaman878914 Mar 2019 5:02 p.m. PST

What a bunch of luddites. In my day they had to use stone tablets – phooey on your pencils and paper.

Luxury, when I was a lad we had to write on the cave walls using our fingers! You were grateful for it!!

Narratio14 Mar 2019 7:16 p.m. PST

Writing? What is this writing? In my day stick figure pictures were good enough! Youngsters of today… and get offa' my lawn.

The rulebook.

Dice, they should be rolled, not flung.
The boxes that the minis are supposed to go into at the end of the game, most people can't figure that one out.

Old Contemptibles14 Mar 2019 8:58 p.m. PST

Well some of the guys I game with can figure how to use their phone for most of the game.

Stone Tablets, cave walls; STICK FIGURES ??? I must have walked into the exclusive Imperial club for Toffs and rich landed Hobnobs, we memorized our record sheets in Dactylic Pentameter !!!

Dactylic Pentameter?!?!!?! Posh!

I wish we had the luxury of language growing up. When I was a kid we had to play RPGs through hours long exchanges of interpretive dance and grunts around the fire. You kids these days, you have no appreciation.

The Shadow15 Mar 2019 7:27 a.m. PST

Interpretive dance??? We just sat there and farted!

Winston Smith15 Mar 2019 8:53 a.m. PST

You farted? You must have had access to food and drink. Lucky Bleeped text
We had to get by on the smell of food coming from the rot and decay at the landfill we lived on.

Roderick Robertson Fezian15 Mar 2019 10:46 a.m. PST

You had the time to play RPGs? You softies! We had to dodge dinosaurs, with no time for frivolities like playing, or even farting. And food? we were the food!

I wish to express my thanks to the previous posters for making me laugh.

I think this thread has literally gone into the toilet!

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP16 Mar 2019 1:34 p.m. PST

Yeah, that's all true, but you try to tell that to kids today and they just ask you if Instagrammed it.

When I was a kid we had this annoying git named Homer. He insisted on telling every person he met all about our game. It lasted hours and really took away the enjoyment.

I finally got so tired of it that I took my character, a level 40 paladin named Hector, and challenged the most powerful character, a level 50 rouge named Achilles, to a duel just so I could leave the group. Achilles was played by Homer's annoying little sister, Andromeda.

Wonder what became of that story he kept telling to everyone?
