Throwing axe, one handed axe, two handed axe, battle axe, mattock, hammer, warhammer. While technically not weapons, helmets, high quality armor and shields are also high on the equipment lists. |

A huge double-headed battle axe that is actually twice as long as the dwarf is tall. Per TGerritson's contribution, another dwarf, but that one is holding the huge double-headed battle axe, thus increasing the first dwarf's effective range to (dwarf arm) + (dwarf from ankle to extended arm) + (battle axe length). |

A good subterfuge to the stereotype. Ninja stars, poison in the teacup, a finger needle, a silk garrot, and best of all a beautiful, female assassin to do the real fighting. |

In one of my summer Teen Library D&D sessions, a dwarf went into battle as follows: Killed 4 goblins with a picnic table. Killed 1 goblin with his bare hands, and then proceeded to pummel two more to death with the dead goblin. Charged the big bad while holding a stuffed, skeletal teddy bear. Technically, that wasn't a weapon, but he held it instead of a shield. So I'll add: Picnic table Dead goblin Teddy bear |

I've sometimes thought dwarfs ought use spears/pikes to compensate for their poor reach. In practice I mainly associate them with axes, hammers, and crossbows, though. |

Dwarves reflect a generalized old norse/Viking look (though often at a late medieval, renaissance or early modern level of technology) and their weapons reflect that, with a fantasy touch- axes, hammers, swords, spears. etc. plus the odd pick, mattock, or similar mining or smithing implement. It is also not uncommon to see heavy weaponry, such as poleaxes, especially when paired with plate armor. Generally, they are attributed a high level of technical proficiency, including smelting and forging, so they are associated with high quality steel weaponry and armor (commonly chain or plate armor with lighter textile or leather armor for scouts/miners, if present). Crossbows and, in some settings, firearms complete their armories. Would you distinguish between 2 handed and single handed variants of melee weaponry? For top 5 I would say: Axe (and 2 handed) Hammer ( and 2 handed) Crossbow Shields could be up there (especially round and tower shields), but are generally considered body armor.
