Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world, according to the 2019 Forbes billionaires' list released this week. With an estimated fortune of $131,000,000,000 USD he is the wealthiest man in modern history. But he is by no means the richest man of all time… link |

Medieval…if you look down the list you will see that William the Conqueror at number 8 and valued at $229.5 USDbn. I wonder how he accumulated all of that money and how modern experts computed it? Very interesting. |

I think it was Wargames Illustrated that just had an article on Mansa Musa. Years ago, Strategy and Tactics had an article on the campaigns of Sundiata, founder of the Mali Empire. Something I've always wanted to collect an army for. I wonder if Khurasan's 15mm range would be good for both the armies of Sundiata and Mansa Musa: link |

TMP link Beat ya' to it! One can argue that the modern day, where absolute monarchs are rare, isn't really comparable to ancient and medieval empires. Also, what classifies as "ownership?" And on what are we basing the value? Sheer landmass may be valuable, but it really only counts if the land is a.) a source of resources suitable for the period and b.) accessible by the methods of the day. "Owning" a forest wilderness, for example, doesn't mean much if one can't get there and really can't do anything with it, absolute monarch or not. But it's still a nifty thing to talk about! |

Seems a bit bogus. How can one possibly compare the wealth of people from different centuries and millennia? |
