Did Russian foot artillery carry muskets like their French counterparts? I have heard conflicting opinions but they did carry what looks like an ammunition pouch. Anyone know something definitive?

Not to anything I ever saw on a plate or description.

Don't think so either – my uniform info does not show an ammunition pouch although some of them have other types of pouches

I haven't seen anywhere in my artillery research that the Russian artillerymen carried muskets.

and ask the question there, experts about the Russian Army, like Alexandre Heron did emigrate to that place.

von W, your link is superb. That is a forum I had completely missed out on!

Many thanks indeed!

From what i've read Russian gunners (at least in 1805) were issued a cartridge box, but it was empty. The gunner relied on his sword, rammer, trail spike etc. for defence.

I'm sure they had some weapons. At least a short sword that could cut brush for firewood and hack arms off a Frenchman.
