…. Each Other. "Americans' views of Russia have plummeted to levels not seen since the collapse of the Soviet Union, according to a newly released survey by the U.S.-based Gallup polling center. The data say 52 percent of Americans see Russian military power as a direct threat to U.S. vital interests, and that a third identify Russia as the United States' arch rival, thereby displacing North Korea from the top position in Gallup's semi-annual ranking of perceived U.S. enemies. The percentage of Americans who view Russia unfavorably also increased a single percentage point to 73 in the latest poll, a record high in Gallup's trends…." This American does not feel this way. I wish people would compare the Soviet Union military to Russian military today. No way Russian Military power threatens U.S vital interests. |

Contemporary Russia differs from the "Evil Empire" of the Soviet Union in many ways. In 1989 the Soviet Union had a population of 286,730,819. Russia currently has a population of approximately 144,500,000 (considerably less than the population of Nigeria). Furthermore, many in the leadership of the Soviet Union believed that they had a mission to lead the world. I think that the current Russian leadership is more concerned with holding their nation together. What has changed in recent years is that the American left has shifted to a far more anti-Russian position. I would say more concerning the reasons for this shift, but that is better left for the Blue Fez. |

Russia has earned dislike from Americans, but it certainly is not a vital threat. Except for the nukes, I suppose… |

The dip in American perception of Russia has more to do with its leader's alleged election meddling in 2016 than the reality of Russia being a real threat. |

^ Bingo! My opinion of the PEOPLE of Russia hasn't changed. They're intelligent (mostly) and many are well educated. It's a dynamic country, even if it's economy is a mess (Putin – get a clue). My Grandfather always warned us that the Russians were NOT as bad of a threat, since we had more in common – but, China was the real threat… |
