Eric,

Great looking game.

Riverlevels.uk on the Derwent at Stamford Bridge, discussing the approximately 7m river level, notes possibly importantly "[t]he levels for this location are measured relative to sea level, not relative to the riverbed. The levels shown here do not, therefore, necessarily represent the actual depth of the water." link

The current north end of the bridge is approximately 10m above sea level, so approximately ten feet above the usual river surface, and the monument 17m ASL. link

The river Derwent has a fairly extensive flood plain which has been constrained over the centuries.

So the river may not really be 7m deep around the bridge and would not have been in 1066. So you probably had it right when you made it fordable as some of the accounts suggest.

Cheers,

Jon
