I'll be honest, I had never heard of this series of books from the 1950s and 1960s, but I was blown away once I took a look. Erik Heyl wrote six volumes in his Early American Steamers series. Each ship covered has a drawing of the ship (yes, EVERY ONE), and a one to two page summary of the ship's life. What's cool here is that there are a ton of ships which served in the Civil War, either as converted warships, blockade runners, cruisers, or transports.
