Saratoga Campaign would be great.

I keep saying that you can't make a movie "about" a battle or campaign, unless it's a dry as dust documentary.
Movies are about people.
Who are you going to make this about?

Rhino Co23 Feb 2019 10:35 p.m. PST

Benedict Arnold and the Baroness von Riedesel.

nevinsrip23 Feb 2019 10:35 p.m. PST

John, I would guess that Arnold would be the obvious choice.

"set during" rather than "about"; as Winston says movies are about people.

There's already a movie about it, The Devil's Disciple from 1959:

Laurence Olivier played Burgoyne.

There would be a lot of drama for a Saratoga movie.

In today's Hollywood the script would have to be something along the lines of SarahToga, one officer's struggle to become a trans woman using the limited medical science of the time and gain acceptance from his peers set against the backdrop of the Saratoga campaign.

Sort of.

The people in the movie have to be interesting (and believable), but the movie can still be "about" a battle or campaign or mission. Movies like We Were Soldiers and Hacksaw Ridge and Zulu and Gettysburg were quite successful and rewatchable, and still get the gist of the battle/campaign across even with all the lost details, overdramatizations, and inaccuracies.

The Saratoga campaign could probably be interesting to watch if it put the viewer in a neutral position and showed the activities of both sides in the struggle to meet the enemy and then win the resulting battle.

All the British troops will be in 1768 regulation uniform with white-faced, unlaced coats. And silly wigs.

Burgoyne will have a soul patch or pig tail or something.

42flanker28 Feb 2019 1:03 p.m. PST

All redcoats had tails.

Winston Smith28 Feb 2019 1:47 p.m. PST

Geez. We're knocking a movie already that's not even a glint in a producer's eye.
Good job, Lads! grin

Might as well join in.
All the Americans will be hiding behind trees and fight like ninjas.
Betsy Ross flags all over the place!

Exactly!

@ Virginia Tory and 42flanker, you gentlemen are describing the latest unit of my British army. ;-)
