"GUNPLA is an abbreviation from Gundam Plastic Model and corresponds to a series of plastic model kits created by japanese brand BANDAI which is being produced regularly from 1980 to this day. One of the crucial features of "today's" GUNPLA is the snap-fit technology, which eliminated the use of glue in the assembling process. The model kit is bought in runners, from which you have to cut the parts and assemble the figure…."

As cool as they are, no one has bothered to obtain the Gundam license from Bandai to do a proper set of rules for the tabletop like Robotech. I've seen people use homebrew rules but that's about it.

Not true. I have seen the bother being done.
No one has been successful.
A person was attempting it last year but i admit it has been some time since i heard anything about it.

I'm afraid the situation is actually reversed. Mekton Zeta was licenced for the official Gundam rpg in Japan but R Talsorian Games never finished getting it translated. Mekton did get a reprint and rerelease last year. But if you want a Gundam game Mekton is what you're looking for.

Jovian Chronicles is certainly usable as a not-Gundam game.

The big problem with Gundam is the sheer size of the beasts: A 1/100 scale model of a Gundam is over 18cm tall. You need to get down to about 1/400 scale to get reasonably sized Gundams for gaming.

If I had to pick a mecha system for Gundam, Mekton Zeta would be a good call. Very flexible (if crunchy) design system and the the RPG side is Interlock which was also used in Cyberpunk 2020 (before that Fuzion abomination came to pass.)

I generally think that a GUNPLA kit is about 4,000 to 8,000 yen; but can vary widely beyond that.
