…Cemters in 5 Minutes "Russian military ships and submarines equipped with Tsircon hypersonic missiles will be capable of destroying command centers on the United States territory in five minutes, Retired Counter Admiral Vsevolov Khmyrov told reporters on Thursday. Khmyrov said that after withdrawing from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, the US will control systems that they may decide to deploy in Europe "from command centers on the territory of the American continent." Russia's Tsircon missiles will not only create a counterweight to missiles deployed in Europe "but will also ensure the capability to strike key control systems – command centers," he added…." Super-destabilizing delivery system. If I have less than five minutes to react, we go back to launch on warning, and possibly have to decentralize launch authority to prevent the bulk of our nuclear deterrent being destroyed. That and expand our SSBN fleet significantly for the "let's make sure no one in either hemisphere survives us" riposte. :( |

Do they not understand that despite that, each force has standing orders, and in many cases (at least on the subs), authorization and targeting to launch retaliatory strikes on Russia should communication be lost for any lengthy period of time, under suspicious circumstances, e.g. non-solar flare events, etc.? No doubt, ALL of Putin's dachas are on the target list too, as are any underground bunkers he may have access to. |

On the bright side, we won't have to panic for very long. |

That, kids, is why the US has missile subs, and a massively-distributed National Command Authority to give orders to them. So that even if someone does nuke DC**, whoever launched will suffer the full wrath of the US in return. ** do it while Congress is in session and use neutron bombs, please, so that the museums survive. |
