Now this is just what you promised us recently. I imagine Murawski will be delighted, as their website really does not do these figures justice. (I can well imagine if I "did" this Facebook thing I would find them but….)
You are right about the bonnet de police looking odd….Perry figures look like something from International Rescue, but that was indeed the look. We are used to the much lower crest of the forage cap. Also like your point about uniformity. A diorama needs masses of variety. A unit needs the opposite, if 12 figures are to look like a regt. By the time we add a trumpeter, an occifer, an elite company figure, a standard bearer (of course they carried them)we cannot afford to have the chap falling from his horse also.
Delighted to see these

Yes, very nice painting. Thanks |

Mes Amis, I love the painting on these and am tempted to buy some. However the poses seem a little wooden and the sabres a trifle spatula like. Probably just me being fussy but interesting to hear what others think. Cheers, Paul |

I think it is great that someone adds a bit of constructive criticism in their comments. I confess that just saying "cool" in isolation does not "work" for me. If it is cool say why. If it is whatever is the opposite of cool, say why. I would personally disagree with AuvergneWargamer's comments, but welcome them +++ I imagine these are Paul Hick's work. That can be criticised. His faces, although superbly cast, with great definition, can look a bit "syndromal". His figures are slender, esp against Front Rank or any range showing scale creep. But I find the uniform detail is quite superb and a great help to painting. They are actually in human proportions.
So this is not being fussy from AW. This is giving added content to responses to the posting. We need more of that! Thanks

Nice figures but those sabres cross the line between longevity and esthetics. |

How interesting. I must say it struck me that the sabres of a light cavalry regt might have a greater curve to them, but that is the work of seconds. With Perrys heavy cavalry the reverse applies. I spend all my time trying to straighten them. Too long? Hard to tell and I will leave to the experts, but too long easily corrected, if instead too short and stubby…forget it!
Finally the shape. Certainly British Light Dragoon sabres were very odd looking things with that hatchet like tip to the blade. It almost looked like that was the widest part. Good for the cut/slash I gather but not for "giving point" No idea if these chaps' similar. |

sabres will always be a problem, due to casting restrictions, one could replace them with beaten flat copper wire, plastic card or whatever and by that enhance the quality of the miniature, some modellers do this even for 18 mm miniatures for stunning effect. |

Good point. Perry plastic sabres/swords are superb. Whether heavy cavalry with long straight, narrow blades or lights with the curved sabre they are to scale and surprisingly robust. I wish I had the patience to upgrade my swords, but frankly I can hardly find the time for just painting right now. This retirement idea….all that free time…oh sure.

I'd love a company to release steel swords for Napoleonics, just as you can get steel lances and spears. In the meantime I'll continue buying shouldered swords where possible, and preferring robustly sculpted ones also. |

fantastic work, I hope to have mine off the desk in the next week or so. I use 12mm commercial staples to replace my swords, but only if I break them. I recently replaced a sqns worth of old glory hussars, a bit of work but better than having no swords at all. cheers matt |

How would these fit in size wise with Front Rank? |
deadhead | 21 Mar 2019 9:51 a.m. PST |
I do not have these, but no figures fit in with Front Rank (OK maybe Calpe…). I suspect they are Paul Hicks' work and he generally goes for a slender, fine featured look. Much better proportioned than many, but tend to be slightly smaller than average |
