I have read L. Petre's book about Napoleon's Battle of Friedland and was looking to find some others on the subject. Any one here know of any they would recommend?

Ditto what Dave Jackson wrote, as is his Eylau book!

James needs to write Jena book too, so when he pops up here, let him know about it!

There is an exceptional article on the Battle of Friedland here: link

I really enjoy reading James Arnold's Napoleonic books. They are a good read and don't bog down in minutiae and have very nice maps – and plenty of them. Some history books just don't put enough maps in their books.

The book on Eylau, Crisis in the Snows, is a book that you should read before tackling the Friedland book.

Mr. Arnold replied to an email of mine saying that he was finishing up a ACW novel but had gathered some info on the Jena/Auerstadt book. I am anxious for it, also. And I would second, er, third James Arnold's books! I am re-reading 'Crisis In the Snows' now.

LOL..on behalf of James…i thank you all….i am now awaiting his book on Jena/Auerstadt!

Yes..as suggested…read the Eylau book before Friedland.

Arnold's Eylau book is my favorite Napoleonic book, I've read it 4 times.
It's one of the few campaign books where the campaign is as riveting as the main battle.

His Austrian books are excellent too.

I have to concur with the group, you cannot go wrong with Arnold's book but to really enjoy it, you should buy both his Crisis in the Snows and his Friedland book.

James Arnold's book on Friedland is the absolute state of the art history on the Friedland Campaign and battle. Its the real deal. Unsurpassed.

I would concur with previous posters on Arnold's books though I do have a slight reservation on the Austrian 1809 books – I would go with Gill for the latter.

A small interesting booklet is "Friedland" by Major A F Becke.

Also useful is "1807 From Eylau to Friedland" by Hourtelle.

I think Arnold and Hourtoulle's books compliment each other and are well worth reading. I also have Petre's title and find that all books often have something not found in other titles covering the same topics.

Definitely the Arnold books. I get all he writes. What makes them great is not only are they detailed and well researched, Arnold adds a lot of personal story accounts that make the history come alive.
