I spent about 10 minutes googling photos of oriental carpets so I can make my own flying carpet figure.

Have been bombarded by Persian carpet adds for the last three days.

I am surprised you were bombarded by adult sites.

Don't make the mistake of googling "Hotts" for Hordes of the Things…I did years ago…it wasn't pretty & rather "X" rated.

My worst was looking for a map of the Belgian village of Bodange for a 1940 battle. It appears the kinky sex crowd can't spell.

Korvessa17 Feb 2019 3:21 p.m. PST

Russ,

You don't want to look up "Bond Girls" (as in Bond, James Bond) either.

The Internet is a thing, and is neither good nor evil.

Zephyr117 Feb 2019 4:02 p.m. PST

I once researched "frequency spectrum" (a science-y thing) and got tons of redirects that I could buy frequency spectrums for 25% off at Target. I knew at once they were Liars…

Yeah, looking for ideas on how to paint my Hun cavalry. Typed in Huns, Didn't know huns fought in the nude, co-ed, and using all 101 positions shown in the Kama Sutra (plus several more that weren't illustrated).
Gee, isn't the internet wonderful for learning new information like that?

WeeSparky17 Feb 2019 5:47 p.m. PST

Do internet searches through an engine that doesn't track your searches, problem solved.

startpage.com/en

You may also want to look at using a browser that supports ad blocking.

Stryderg17 Feb 2019 7:06 p.m. PST

duckduckgo.com is another non-tracking search engine. None of them are quite as fast as Google, but you don't have to deal with the backlash.

Korv,

This very thing was just talked about.
Rug searching on the internet and all.

The internet was a useful thing at one time; prior to the intervention of the time-traveling marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation and general weaponizing of the internet by denizens of our our space-time continuum.

In The UK there is a supermarket chain called "Iceland".
I have a friend who every time he shops online at that supermarket is bombarded by online adds for holidaying in Iceland.

Makes him mad, makes me laugh.

Like most things humans get their hands on … some Bleeped text it up for the rest of us.

For example I am still awaiting my money from that Nigerian Prince that contacted me on line …

But at least the Internet is good for looking up things like Nigeria is a federal republic …

I once looked up "painting flesh" and the results were rather eye-opening and it wasn't until page three that I found anything related to miniatures. (and it took a while to explain that search history to the wife)

von Schwartz25 Feb 2019 5:26 p.m. PST

Oooooh, a smartass, I respect that!

Before I retired, in 2014, I was a PI. Don't think I was ever hired to watch anyone here. But if someone paid me … well that's something else. money

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP28 Feb 2019 6:28 a.m. PST

If they hire you to watch me, you really need to make sure you're getting paid enough to cover post traumatic stress counseling.

The VA has me on some good "meds" … evil grin

Me too. I'm going there tomorrow for tests to make sure the damage they are doing to my body still justifies the benefit they give me.

Cheers!

They keep telling me a need a cane, but then they tell me I can't hit people with it. They need to make up their minds …

von Schwartz01 Mar 2019 6:09 p.m. PST

Well, I used to know a guy who had a 'whiskey cane'. Some one hollowed out a simple cane and inserted a rather large vial of 12 year old scotch. Didn't really need to use the cane until "after" his walk.
