Got Risk: Europe for Christmas and broke it out for a playtest with the boys. Highly recommended.

As a kid played Risk often, around Christmas time learned there is a Napoleonic Risk game so had to look but was way more than I could afford.

Nice – a great starter game to introduce younger players to boardgaming and strategy gaming – hopefully they graduate to miniature gaming…..

Note that it's actually NOT a true Risk game as such, but a similar type of light war game. It actually plays very differently to Risk and even the more complex variants like Risk: 2210 AD.

These days, Hasbro is using "Risk" as a branding name. That's not a criticism; I think the marketing decision is pretty clever here, as these games are very much for the market (like me) who enjoy Risk and similar fare. Think of it as "if you like Risk, we think you'll like this, too."

I have the game, but my group has yet to break it out, as it's pretty much a dedicated 4-player game, and we frequently have 5 or 6 players present. But I'll probably pull it out soon!

Good to know. When I first saw it, I thought it may have been a rehash of Castle Risk. I am glad to see that it isn't.

Played Castle Risk only once. I believe I won the game on the first turn using some kind of boat. Don't really remember the details. I do remember nobody wanted to play it again after that.

This one looks much better.
