The UK should join NAFTA.

I invaded the UK once, back in the 80's. I rampaged(1) and pillaged(2) London for a few days and then left. It was a good time.

(1) Read that as – "did some shopping"
(2) Read that as – "ate in some restaurants"

Sure. King George invaded the colonies, no? Not to mention the British Invasion by The Beatles in the 60s.

CFeicht14 Feb 2019 4:02 p.m. PST

Luxembourg could do that at current.

I suspect that the gentlemen does not do much on geography of read much on Afganistan. Northern
Scotland would not be a good place to invade, its very poor going for vehicles and really not that many roads to support an army long term.

The gurrilla war would be long and bloody and could take decades to do.

It also assumes the US would divert everything to invade the UK, that is perhaps a touch hopeful, would everybody else not take advantage of the complete absence of US forces elsewher to further there own ends?

Not that much thought in the presentation.

Really, why would the US bother? Shorter queues at the airport when going on holiday? The cost of changing all the intersections to accommodate right hand drive instead of left hand would be enormous.

I suspect even France and even Spain could do so, if desired, given drastic cuts I've read about in the RN budget, and the fact that there are currently no operational UK aircraft carriers in existence.

Remaining is the trick, not the invasion.

Cheaper and quicker to just buy the place……

I only skimmed the video for lack of time so sorry if I missed the key element, but I think we can apply Betteridge's law and answer "no". Because Britain has nuclear weapons. You can mess with a nuclear power quite a bit, but you can't threaten their existence.

Could the US invade the Uk? Sure. Would it be worthwhile and successful? I highly doubt it. I agree that actually conquering the population would be extremely difficult. Defeating the UK military would not be overly difficult for the US. I don't say that to denigrate the UK military, but the shear size difference gives the US an overwhelming advantage. The more important question is though, why would the US invade the UK. The US and the UK enjoy a very close alliance. In fact the UK is probably the closest ally of the US. I would suspect that anything the US wanted from the UK they could get by negotiation rather than military conquest. I don't think an invasion of the Uk would end well for the US. Invading islands is difficult. Rather than invade Japan, the US used nuclear weapons to force their surrender. When they did so, the US had the only weapons of the type. Now, the UK has nuclear weapons of their own and could launch them to defend themselves even before the US uses theirs. I truly believe it doubtful a nation will use nuclear weapons in the future, but their pure threat makes sure everyone at least plays nice on the surface. Proxy wars are how nuclear equipped nations combat each other now. It allows them to fight their battles through others and not risk nuclear war. Rather than an outright invasion, I would suspect if the US decided to attack the UK, they would support the enemies of the UK first and undermine their society to get them to voluntarily join the US or somehow come so deeply indebted to the US they essential become a satellite to the will of the US.

The U.S would slowly infiltrate their school institutions at every level, slowly and patiently indoctrinating. As the years go past the indoctrination not only continues but increases. This slowly becomes acceptable to the public and the few brave dissenters are shouted down as radicals.

Well based on my management chain for most of the last decade you might be forgiven for thinking we already have. Though they rotate through on cycle that appears to have more to do with US tax law for expatriates than military strategy…

Anyway I thought the real concern was that we were going to invade you get our colonies back?

I expect that they would land in Southern Ireland to liberate the Irish (only 100 years too late) they try to drive to London.
Geography has never been a US strong point. Just look at how often in the 80s US was attacked by Iraq then bombed Iran in revenge. (Or was that just spelling). Also many US tourists seem confused that Scotland and Ireland are different countries.

Yes, but why? We've got enough unintelligible accents in New Jersey and Massachusetts without adding Scotland into the mix!
