Writing in Slingshot issue 322, Steve Neate extols 54mm as the "scale of the Gods."

Have you ever played an Ancients game with 54mm figures?

Tried to get into a 54mm Ancients game at HISTORICON 2017. Sadly, it was full-up -- but looked magnificent!

When I was a kid! Not since then though.

I've used 54mm figures as tokens for divine influence for 28mm forces. The gods would battle, changing the odds for the humans, the humans would fight, creating power for the gods.

So … yeah. Scale of the gods.

I took part in a 54mm game based on the Charlton Heston movie "The Warlord."

Yes, Commands and Colours Ancients with 54s instead of blocks. Hurray for HaT!

Not sure if they are still there, but there were pictures on the HaT site of a DBx game played with 54mm plastics. Looked superb.

Yes – did DBA with 54mm Punic Wars figures. 42mm too…

For a long while I've been tempted to do a Gallic Wars project in 54mm. This blog contains a lot of inspiration: romansgohome.blogspot.com Asterix and company would need to make an appearance, naturally!

I play Pigs Wars with 54s. I have some photos posted on the Pig Wars yahoo site.

Recently played a "fantasy" 54mm Army Men game, Green attacking the Tan forces, with a beach landing, a fight up a hill, attacking water turbine generators along the way to the city, where the Green had to stop a train coming in, with reinforcements. It was played out on a 30-foot long, by 12-feet wide, table. It was a blast!

Developing and constructing multi-story buildings, out of MDF, for a city fight, building to building. The Green will be attempting to rescue hostages from one of the buildings, with the Tan defending. The table will be the same size: 12-feet by 30-feet, virtually covered by buildings. We will have a river, a green-space city park, and DUKS navigating their way up the roadways, and possibly the river, too.

I've gamed in 6mm, all the way up to 54mm. I love my 25mm fantasy games (I do! I do!), but I really enjoy my 54mm games with Army Men figures. If you have never gamed in 54mm scale, give it a try, whatever the genre. It is a blast! I highly recommend 2"-square MDF bases. Hot glue your figures to the MDF, texture the base, and game! Cheers!

Ancients, no. ACW and AWI, yes.

I did a Cremona / Bedriacum Roman Civil War game a while back. Since then been busy converting Weston Mexican Peasants into Gauls, Germans and Dacians as some opposition for the Romans. I detail my hobby progress here: link

These Belgian gamers also do Ancient battles with 54mm: link

Why 54mm in this scale? Failing eyesight / ease of painting, the spectacle, space – I now have a 12x6 table, lots of figures available ranging from Expeditionary Force to Del Prado to A Call to Arms plus conversions etc…

Thanks Gundabad for sharing the link to our blog,

Our biggest Ancient battle was Gaugamela:

But we did Punic and Medieval wars also.
