I was skimming a Smithsonian article the other day that said someone plugged a bunch of human DNA, modern and Paleolithic, into some kind of AI and it suggested that there's a still-to-be-discovered ancestor to modern humans, along with the Denosovians, Neanderthals, etc. Here's hoping we learn more soon!

Thousands of years ago, this world must've been like Middle-Earth with all these different races.

Makes you wonder if some of our "monsters", dwarves, elves, ogres, etc were memories of long past encounters.

Look at the movie, "The 13th Warrior" and the original legend of Beowulf itself. Kinda lends itself to this discussion eh?

Not to mention Bigfoot and the yeti…

Do I sense just a wee bit of wimsy in that last remark?

I don't think they are all extinct. Ever been in a Post Office queue first thing in the morning…

From what I has seen of TV or read recently this appears to be the case. More than one type of "human" existed at the same time. No "missing link(s)".

The "Hobbits" of an island in the Pacific.

The odds of leaving a bone or fossil to be found is very small to one has to guest of limited data.

Great chart Dyehard ! I know my DNA traces my family back to 100,000-180,000 years ago to East Africa. Modern day places in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya area.

I'd guess many of us could trace their long past linage to the region(?).

Also on my Father's side, our DNA says we are very, very, distantly related to Napoleon napoleon huh? Surprised the Bleeped text out of me ! Might explain why we both joined the Army Infantry. And I like to play with toy soldiers ! wink

I'm pretty sure I have arrested some of those "extinct" human species. Strange creatures walk the streets of DFW.

I've got my lineage back to a lost tribe of Swedes with a really bad sense of direction.

"extinct" human species
I know some of those used to come to my gym … and still do ! They must be breeding !!!! huh?

von Schwartz13 Feb 2019 7:21 p.m. PST

Yeah, I know the ones you're referring to. They have hair in places where most people don't even have places.

14Bore18 Feb 2019 5:18 p.m. PST

They found a Neanderthal to be in the GEICO commercial so there must be some still around.
